2019 V8 Sportsman Car Rules

This class is being developed in order to create a competitive class for the Street stock, bomber and hobby stock  cars in the region along with those who want to build a car and run in this class we will keep these rules in effect as long as there is a good competitive field with a future, all cars should be keep neat and clean and look if there is any questions please call as we will enforce these rules. If it’s not stated in the rules it doesn’t mean, it’s approved. Please consult with tech official for approval.

Body Cars must be a stock street type.  Any (OEM means Ford, GM, or Mopar), Factory V-6 or V-8 straight rear axle American made passenger cars or trucks only.  Any steel factory style OEM body is permitted, and must have factory trunk, hood, roof, and floor pan. No Corvettes.  No commercial vehicles, no convertibles.  Any tee top car must have an OEM full roof for model of car the complete bumper-to-bumper body must be retained.  Doors must be welded or bolted shut.  Doors may be gutted for cage installation.  All glass, plastic, fiberglass, and trim must be removed from race car.  Upholstery and plastic portion of the dash must be completely removed.  A-posts may be trimmed and cleaned up to allow for engine set back, but must be reinforced.  Window post may not be removed. Crash or rust damage may be repaired with Stock appearing steel or aluminum body panels only. Fenders, doors, and quarter panels must remain as close as possible to original body lines. No skirting or body panels lower than stock. After market plastic nose and tail pieces allowed. if any car becomes all aluminum body it will not compete any repairs MUST maintain stock contours be neat and repainted within 2 weeks and look like the model car it is representing.  

Frame  Frame must remain square and to factory spec.  Metric frame, (Monte Carlo, Thunderbird) cars are allowed.  No independent rear suspensions, car must have to of been original straight axle car frame.  Minimum wheel base is 100″ per OEM specifications for stock factory production.  Allowance for caster adjustment will be allowed at the technical inspection pad. 

Firewall Firewalls must be complete, from fender to fender, top to bottom with all holes covered with 20ga steel minimum. Floors may be cut or moved back to allow firewall clearance for headers and distributor, but area must be closed with 20 ga steel.  Stock OEM floor pan must extend from front firewall to rear fire wall.  All rusted portions of the floorboard must be replaced with minimum 20 guage steel.  Driver compartment may be enclosed with 20ga steel with complete interior window level decking (may be aluminum).  If compartment is enclosed, and decking in place, rear firewall may be removed but floor pan must remain from front firewall no less than 25 inches forward of rear axle centerline and must fully extend from left rocker panel to right rocker panel.

Driver Location Driver must be on left side of drive shaft.  Fender wells may be altered or removed.  No part of drivers seat shall be less than 30 minches forward of left rear axle centerline.  Driver must be located in the original OEM seat location on the left side of the vehicle only.  No back seat mounting of drivers seat unless special circumstances exist for extremely large driver.

Weight Is with driver after race anytime there are three options depending on cubic inch displacement. All lead ballast must be painted and have the car number and secured with two  ½” bolts p er 50 lbs. 50 + lbs require two (2) bolts. Will be inspected.  It is your responsibility to make sure your ballast stays in your car for everyone’s safety.
Penalty weighs must be painted red or orange. If weight falls off your car on the track at any time you are immediately disqualified from the event. All cars must have front and rear hook ups for towing, V-6 cars / trucks must have a 25lb weight located forward of imaginary line from upper ball joints.

Option A Minimum weight 3,050 pounds with V-6 or V-8 when running Mopar=Chrysler, Plymouth, and Dodge.  With 370 cubic inch maximum. Ford=Ford and Mercury.  360 cubic inch maximum. GM=Chevy, Pontiac, Buick, Oldsmobile as long as they are GM engines.  364 cubic inch maximum.

Option B Minimum weight 3,250 lb any engine displacement above option A but below 390 Cubic inch Displacement

Option C Minimum weight 3,400 lb any engine above option B but not to exceed 406 Cubic inch Displacement

Left front fender or hood must declare your minimum weight & Displacement we will tech displacement at our discretion or upon protest a car that is lettered wrong to gain an advantage will be disqualified and lose year to date points.

*NOTE AS THIS IS A NEW CLASS IN ORDER TO HAVE A COMPETITIVE CLASS THAT CAN THRIVE AND GROW 35 RACEWAY RESERVES THE RIGHT DURING THE SEASON, AFTER SOME COMPETITIVE NIGHTS  TO ADJUST  WEIGHT ON OPTION B and C  TO CREATE A COMPETITVE FIELD WE (WILL NOT RAISE OPTION C A BOVE 3400#) AND TO ADJUST THE CARBURATOR RULE  FOR OPTION A IF NEEDED.  IN THE EVENT THERE IS A CHANGE THERE WILL BE A 2 WEEK NOTICE PRIOR TO EITHER BEING EFFCTIVE. 

Engine Again, only Ford, Chevy, or Mopar push rod engines are allowed. May be in stock location or #1 spark plug can be even with an imaginary line from L to R top ball-joint or forward.  #1 spark plug may not extend behind imaginary line from L to R upper ball joint on any car Block No big blocks.  No Hemis. ONLY Cast iron OEM blocks allowed. Any steel stock type engine mounts are allowed.  No machining in lifter valley (excpet for oil flow drain openings) or in lifter bores. All internal Engine components must be stock, or stock appearing (meaning for reliability you can use better than OEM components) stroking is allowed. After-market rod bolts may be used.  Only Flat top or less dished style pistons.  Floating wrist pins are Allowed. 

No type domed pistons. No lightweight cranks allowed.  No knife edge, No bull nosing, No undercut or drilling of second or third rod journal throws.  No Areowing or similar machine work to cranks.

Oil pan  A stock oil pan or a claimer (extra capacity) style pan is allowed. Must have 1″ sight plug in oil pan between the second and third pan bolt on the drivers side.  No obstruction of sight through inspection hole inside of pan Oiling must be complete wet sump.  No dry sump systems allowed. After-market harmonic balancer is allowed

Camshafts  Any hydraulic or solid lift camshaft  No roller cams

Heads Any Cast or Steel Cylinder Heads.  All heads must use Stock diameter valve springs max OD 1.26”and rocker studs for the make of engine being used studs may be pinned or screwed in.  Push rod guide plates are allowed.  Any single valve spring with dampener is legal.  No double or triple springs allowed  No porting, polishing, port matching or coatings of any type allowed.  No aluminum or titanium components are allowed. Stamped Stock type rockers or full roller rocker arm are allowed.  Poly-locks are allowed. Stud girdles they are not allowed.  No aluminum heads. 

Intake  Intake must 4 barrel aluminum or cast iron open plenum intake with an adaptor only.  Most brand style or size air cleaners are allowed.  NO type of RAM air or forced air induction will be allowed.  Any valve cover combination allowed.

Water Pump   Any OEM style Aluminum or Cast iron water pump is required.  Pulleys may be aluminum after-market.  Fan must be attached to water pump.  Fan spacers may be used.  An additional electric cooling fan may be used to assist cooling under yellow flag conditions, but all stock type fan, pulley, and belt components must remain installed.

Ignition Any OEM Ignition.  Stock HEI ignition is allowed, GM HEI is allowed on any make.  MSD systems allowed. No other similar type after-market or GM ignition boxes allowed.  Must use stock control module. Point systems may use aftermarket coils. All cars must have ignition switch clearly labeled.  The car must be equipped with a kill switch to be located within reach when standing outside the car and easily accessible to emergency personnel.

Exhaust Stock cast iron exhaust manifolds allowed.  Economy single collector Headers with 1-5/8" Primary, 3" Collector, 2.5" Reducers  allowed. No Center dump (Ram Horn) , corvette or 180 degree headers allowed  All exhaust pipes must extend past driver seat or exit to outside of car No larger than 2 1/2” exhaust pipe may be used.

Radiator Only one radiator may be used.  Must be in stock location.  No cutting of hood for clearance.  Aluminum radiator is allowed.  Racing radiator cap is allowed.

Fuel System Gasoline ONLY.  Racing fuel allowed.  NO additives allowed.  NO alcohol NO E85. Fuel pump must be stock OEM style. Fuel cell must be securely mounted to frame in trunk of car between the rear frame rails.  Fuel cell in a steel can is required, if cell is dropped down between frame rails.  A plastic fuel cell may be used only if complete floor pan is in place.  Fuel cell is required, Maximum capacity of 16 gallons.

Carburetor 1 stock (4412) 2 barrel Holley no modification except removal of choke plate. A straight open hole spacer allowed. (NO Super sucker type spacers allowed.) You may change jets, power valve and accelerator pump only. Must use stock metering blocks. There is a $360 (cash only) buy out on any carb or claimed may trade claimer for his. To claim Driver must notify pit Stewart or head tech official within 5 min of feature finish. Anyone refusing buy out will lose all money and points accumulated for that night. A Driver placing a claim must be on the lead lap.

 Carburetor must be mounted on any 4 barrel aluminum or cast iron open plenum intake with an adaptor only.  Carburetor spacer/adapter is allowed, but must not exceed 1-1/4″ total thickness including gaskets.  No other spacers are allowed.  No other alterations are allowed.  Only one carburetor allowed on engine.  No other carburetors are allowed.  No injectors or pressure systems allowed.  Carburetor must pass a go-no-go gauge after feature or any other race.

Transmission Any OEM automatic transmission is allowed.  Unit must be stock and have a full working torque converter, No direct drives, All forward, neutral and reverse gears must be in working order for all automatics, except power glides.  Power glides are allowed either one or both forward gears, with neutral and reverse in working order.

Standard transmissions must be OEM stock, with all gears in working order , triple disc clutch’s allowed, No direct drives.  No  aluminum Flywheels.

All standard transmissions must have bell housing made of 1/4″ thick steel and must cover 180 degrees over the sides and top of the clutch assembly (also referred to as a blow-proof bell housing).  4-speed manual transmissions will be allowed.

No 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmissions or overdrive units.  No Bert, Brinn, or internal clutch style transmissions allowed.  No ram couplers allowed.  Quick-change transmissions or transmission adapters for gear change are not allowed.

Cars must be self-starting and have working neutral, reverse, and ALL forward gears. (Example: 3-speed transmission must have 3 forward working gears).

Transmission fluid coolers are allowed, but may not be mounted exposed in drivers compartment.

Drive shaft must be steel and must be painted white or silver.  Drive shaft must have a steel drive shaft loop (360 degrees) connected to the frame located within 6″ of the front drive shaft u-joint.  Minimum size of drive shaft loop is 2″ x 1/4″ or minimum of 1″ round tubing.  No chain loops are allowed as drive shaft loops.  Drive shaft diameter minimum of 2.5″.

Rear End may be stock OEM for year, make and model.  Any gear ratio allowed as long as no altering of housing is required to allow for installation.  8.5 rear end may replace 7.5.  Must used stock OEM, for frame being used, length, upper, and lower control arms.

Optional a 9 inch Ford option or floater allowed.  Must be centered in car and wheels must be under car.  Must mount like stock rear differential per chassis. .Axles must be locked together at all times with spool or welded.  No posi-trac, limited slip, Detroit locker, allowed.

The lower rear trailing arms must be mounted in stock location, 2.25 to 2.50 inches from bottom of housing.  No sway bars, pan-hard bars. Additional holes in frame and/or rear end will not be permitted.

Brakes Racing brake pedal and single or dual racing master cylinder are allowed.  No aluminum brake components (except master cylinder) on any car.  Car must have a minimum of 3 functioning brakes.  If 4 brakes are installed, a cut-off valve may be used on one of the brakes.  Cut-off valve may be within reach of driver Adjustable proportioning valves are allowed.  If using 3 brakes, the 4th brake components need not be present other than the rotor, which you can remove the outer portion of.  Rear disc brakes are allowed with steel components only.

Steering Quick-steer of any type or style are allowed.  Complete OEM stock steering system for year, make and model, from the steering box to the spindles including steering gear box must be used.  Cast iron steering box only, Stock Rack and pinion allowed only on car came with rack and pinion steering.  After-market steering shaft and quick release steering wheel is allowed.  Steering wheel spacer allowed to a maximum of 3″ thick.  Any belt driven type  power steering pumps.

Suspension No modifying of the suspension is allowed.  OEM suspension parts only.  ANY STOCK OR TUBULAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS (steel only and must be non-adjustable) WILL BE PERMITTED MUST USE STOCK PERCH IN STOCK LOCATION ON FRAME.  No cutting, welding or bending of frame to accommodate suspension changes.  Suspension parts must remain absolutely stock for that year, make and model of car.  This includes spindles, rotors, lower control arms, ball joints, tie-rods, tie-rod sleeves, center-link, pitman arm, idler arm, steering box and trailing arms. .  All upper/lower trailing arm and upper/lower control arm bushings must be present; however, they may not be replaced with after-market bushings.  No mono-ball bushings.  Bolt on spindle savers are allowed.  Upper control arm can be strengthened.

Racing springs may be used. May run wedge bolts or Spring cups in front and rear. One spring per wheel. 5” minimum diameter coil spring. Must mount in original location.

Sliders, adjustable shackles, wedge bolts allowed on leaf spring cars. Rear wedge bolts on coil spring cars permitted.
Lowering blocks optional. Adjustable lowering blocks ok.
Leaf spring cars can use aftermarket bracket in the rear of leaf spring only.
 Adjustable spring spacers, or wedge Bolts or spring bucket allowed on all 4 corners.  Leaf springs may be after-market, (steel only) adjustable lowering blocks.

All leaf Springs must be mounted in OEM location top and bottom. Sliders, adjustable shackles, lowering blocks optional. Adjustable lowering blocks ok. Leaf spring cars can use aftermarket bracket in the rear of leaf spring only Any Sliders or steel non-jack bolt type leaf spring shackles are allowed, including multi-hole.

Shocks   Any Steel, Non adjustable, Non rebuildable, welded bearing shocks or racing shocks,. Concentric body only. One shock per wheel. No Aluminum, shocks can be mounted as needed.  No No schrader valves. No Bulb end/expanded chamber no air shocks no air bags No Canister shocks.                                        

Any shock maybe claimed for 80 ea by any car in the top ½ of feature finish car claining shock must come directly to tech area and make claim within 5 min of feature finish, claimed participant may elect to exchange same corner shock for the participant claiming his.

Roll Cage Roll bars must be constructed of 1.5″ X .095″ or better steel tubing minimum.

Main roll bar and halo must be minimum of 1″ higher than the drivers helmet.

Minimum of 3 door bars on the driver side excluding frame and a minimum of 2 on the passenger side.      driver’s side girth plate located on outside of 3door bars, from most forward edge of  bars to 8 inchs behind back of seat   Front loop is allowed to protect radiator and front frame arms.  Front core support may be removed and cannot be extended past hood.  Maximum size is 1.5″ O.D., 0.95″ tubing.  All cars must have front and rear hook ups by removing deck lid or hood for towing. All roll cage welds must be complete and pass inspection by tech officials.

Floor pan may be cut for cage and sub-frame connectors, but must be replaced by a minimum of 20 gauge steel.  X-bracing under the driver (frame to frame) is allowed.

 Nerf Bars A single nerf bar is allowed on each side of car.  Maximum size is 1.5″ X 0.95″.  May be attached to main cage only at the front and rear and mid-section of the nerf bar.  This means only 3 attachment points are allowed.  No open tubing allowed.  Tubing must be capped or rounded with no sharp edges.  No nerf bars are allowed on the rear outside quarter panel area.  Nerf bars may NOT extend outside of tires.

Windshield Bars A minimum of 3 vertical windshield bars are required.  Must be a minimum of 3/8″ diameter steel and mounted in front of the driver.

Tires Must run same exact rear tires in Feature that was ran in Heat (we will mark tires) if involved in a tire damaging altercation in heat will be allowed to change it for feature, if tire is changed for any other reason car will start the tail. Any DOT tire or Hoosier Modified race tire Those are the ONLY two types of tires allowed! No snow, or all terrain tires allowed.

Wheels 8” steel wheels. racing wheels allowed bead locks allowed, NO wide 5.  The majority of Tire and wheel must be under car, inside the wheel wells.  No wheel spacer or wheel adapter.  No screws in rim to tire. After-market 5/8″ studs are recommended.  1″ diamter lug nuts are required. 

Interior Any oil or transmission fluid coolers in the drivers compartment must be configured to shield driver in case of leaks.  The cooler lines must be encased in tubing, rubber or steel may be used.

Fenders Fenders may be cut for tire clearance only and fender must be within 7″ of the tire.  Front inside fender wells must be removed.

Bumpers Stock OEM bumpers are required.  Option: After-market plastic bumpers may replace stock OEM bumper but must not extend past fender in width.  A maximum of 2″ X 3″ rectangular tubing or 1 3/4″ round tubing should be used to support plastic.  Bumper loops are required to protect radiator, fuel tank and to be used by wrecker for tow hooks.  Single horizontal and single hoop bar are the only bars to protrude through the nose.  Maximum 1.5″ X 0.95″ round steel tubing, maximum 8″ tall and not wider than the frame horns and mounted to the frame or bumper only.  Will be asked to cut them off if wider than frame horns.

Hood Roof & Trunk Lid Steel hood, roof and trunk required. No aluminum. Hood/trunk may be hulled and must remain in place at all times.  Hood must be pinned.  Any truck may remove floor of the bed but must cover bed fully, no working hood scoops. Hood maybe cut to allow for air cleaner if air cleaner sticks above hood it must have a shield a round front half the height of air cleaner, the height above hood not to exceed 3" No scoops  No cowl hoods, Any other holes in hood must be covered by steel.  Quick release hood pins and rear deck pins are required.  Hood must make a complete seal dashboard and/or firewall.  The engine compartment must not be visible from driver’s seat at start of night.

Spoiler Not to exceed 6″ and must be attached to rear of trunk lid only.  May not extend past the width of the car and may not have side-boards.  Spoiler supports may not be taller than spoiler and may not be longer than 12″.  Spoiler may be made of aluminum, steel, or lexan.

Battery Only one 12 volt battery allowed. can be left in stock location or battery can mounted in drivers area or trunk must be covered with a plastic type battery box designed for the purpose & in the bottom of the box there must be 1/4" wood or 1/8" steel with bolts thru it to securely hold box in case of a rollover, battery must fit snuggly in box. battery mounted in stock location must be secure but do not have to be in a plastic battery box. and battery box must be securely mounted to car and safely sealed.  battery must be completely encased in an enclosed battery box with  if mounted in driver compartment.

Seat, Safety Equipment and Apparel Aluminum racing seats with rib supports are mandatory seat must be securely mounted to chassis & roll cage (not floor pan) with a minimum of four 3/8″ bolts, of which two must be mounted in the middle of the seat at the drivers back.. A single quick release 5-point harness less than 5 years old is required in all vehicles. All required belts must be in use anytime the car in on the track. Racing harness racing type 5-point seatbelts are mandatory.  All 5 belts must be fastened while driver is in car and on racing surface.  Must be securely mounted with 1/2″ bolts and tabs welded to the cage or frame.  Must be less than 5 years old.  If the SFI tag is not present or is not legible, the belts will not be allowed.  No fiberglass or bucket seats. 

All required safety equipment and apparel must be in use while the car is on the track. Full face Racing helmet with minimum Snell rating of SA2005 rating is required or newer and must have Snell sticker clearly visible inside the helmet,  If the Snell rating tag is not visible or legible, then the helmet is not approved for racing.                                

At minimum a Neck brace is required but Hans device recommended.
Fire suit with SFI minimum rating of “1”. No holes or torn fire suits allowed. Fire resistant gloves, shoes, and socks must be worn at all times when car is on track.
All cars must have a fire extinguisher minimum 2 lbs. with a working and visible gauge securely mounted  NO TAPE within easy reach of the driver.
Window nets are required on the driver’s side of the car and must be securely mounted. Window net must be operational from inside and outside of the car. Drivers must be able to exit both sides of the car.

Scoring Numbers must be 24″ high and 4″ wide on both sides of the car, and 24″ tall on the roof and positioned so it can be read from the passenger side.  Car must be painted and numbered neatly and kept that way. Transponder to be placed on rear axle in pouch
