Lewis, Carpenter, Armentrout, Truitt & Roberts Take Wins

As 35 Raceway Park Let’s Rain Pass
& Opens Gate for 2008

Frankfort, Ohio April 26th- 35 Raceway Park opened for 2008 as early showers Saturday dissipated with a very nice afternoon and evening. Great for racing and it showed as a large crowd was on hand to witness excellent racing even though car count in each class was not ideal, do to cars not done yet and others moving to the bigger class.

In the 600cc mini sprints it was Dan Lewis taking the heat race win and he looked like he may be the one to beat in the feature, but Beau Stewart was the early leader after starting 5th.  Stewart had checked out on Lewis who started 4th as Stewart had mechanical problems Lewis over took the lead with Chris Smalley 2nd and the 21 of Bob Owens ran 3rd, Stewart placed 4th and Rookie Sam Ashworth rounded out the top 5 finishes.

In the 4 cylinder Stock car class Zack Ackley was piloting the 88 and was the early leader with Slade Mack #12 pressing him for the point.  As Mike Carpenter #42 was just waiting on the opportunity to fall.  He was with the top 2 at the front battling each other , but as Ackley went high out of turn 4 blocking Mack, Carpenter dove low to pull beside Ackley giving Carpenter the vantage of the inside as they drag raced to turn 1 with Carpenter at the point.  At the finish it was Carpenter, Ackley, Mack, Dustin Gatwood, Jeremy Queen completing the top 5 spots.

In the Mod-lite Dwarf car action Columbus’s James Halfhill #46 was checking out on the class by lap 8.  on lap 9 Halfhill caught a rut in turn 4 doing a 1 wheel stand an amazingly saving it.  But not until Dennis Lamphier 6G and Richie Armentrout #21 and Toby Boetcher #53 passed him.  As Armentrout dueled door to door several laps until Lamphier went high in turn 4 leaving Armentrout the position to take the point by lap 12. From then on it was the Richie Armentrout clinic as he piloted his new outlaw race chassis to the win in the feature and heat race, with Lamphier 2nd Boetcher 3rd, Halfhill 4th  and Dave Taylor 5th.  Next Saturday May 3rd In The Mt Dew 30 lap $600 to win for the Mod-Lites with several out of new cars expected to come and try to grab the green $$$$$.

In the 4 cylinder Mini Late Model action James Ball #37 was the early leader with Eric Arledge #65 in close tow, when near the halfway point Arledge had pulled to the inside of Ball going into turn 3 as Ball cut down and Arledge not giving, both cars collided bringing out the caution.  Both cars were regulated to the tail with Arledge out with mechanical failure.  This left 3rd place runner Chip Truitt #9 to the lead at the finish it was.  Chip Truitt Darf Dirt Driver of the Year 2007 taking the win, James Ball recovering from the tail to take 2nd, Shannon Teets #89 took 3rd, Todd Ervin #765 was 4th and Scott Henry in Cashlands #95 was 5th.

In the Sportsman Dwarf car action Ricky Roberts #8R put on a race clinic checking out on the rest of the field as Josh Clifton #7 and Dennis Griffith #19 dueled for 2nd with Gary Waner #30 and Keith Blade #88 in close tow for 4th and 5th places.  At the checkered it was Roberts, Clifton, Griffith, Warner and Blade.

During the intermission it was kids ride night.  So all the kids got to ride with 1 of their favorite 4 cylinder drivers around the fastest 1/5 in the mid-west. Some of the drivers also brought treats for the kids.  Dayton Auto Racing Fan club (DARF) was also on hand for the evening activities.  All feature winners received a DARF shirt.  Next week is the Mt Dew Modlites Spring 30 with $600 to win along with the pickup truck tug-0- war sponsored by Greenlawn Homes
