2010 SPORTSMAN DWARF CAR RULES OF COMPETITION . 1 BODY STYLES: ONLY Classic Modified 1928 - 1948 American-made production vehicles only 5/8 scale two-door sedans, coupes, or pick-up trucks. A. All Bodies must be 5/8 scale . Maximum outside tire width 60”. Cars must pass through a hoop 60 1/4” wide by 50” high. 73 inch wheelbase plus or minus 1 inch. B. Bodies will be metal construction, 26 gauge steel or .040”, aluminum fiberglass or plastic grill shells allowed. All exposed edges must be folded or trimmed over. NO RAM AIR INDUCTION SYSTEMS. C. NO MODLITES no convertibles, no panel trucks, station wagons, or specialty cars. no fenders, wings or spoilers D. Fasteners on hood, trunk, or panels must be positive, locking type. 2. BODY REQUIREMENTS AND SPECIFICATIONS A. Body 1. Must have grill shell or simulated open radiator matching original body style any material. 2. Doors, windows, and cowlings must retain stock appearance. Hood louvers allowed for cooling, but must maintain stock, Contours. 3. Engine compartment must conform to scale and match contour of body. 4. Must have trunk lid or trunk access panel conforming to original body lines. 5. Body must be 5/8 scale stock appearing, 1928-1948 American made production sedans, coupes, pick-ups. B. Dimensions 1. NO car over 50 inches tall, top to ground. Body height maximum 42 inches, bottom edge to top (including frame rail). Maximum outside tire width 60”. 2. Maximum body width: 38 inches. 3. Body contour must be formed by frame and roll cage. 4. Frame ride height must not let car bottom out on track. 5. Doors must be operational and equipped with secure latch. Roof hatch may be used. * Body must be centered on chassis. A. Weight 1. All cars will weigh minimum 1300# with driver, after race. Empty car weight minimum 950#. (no ballast, no fuel), 2. Added weight must be painted white and be marked with car number. Weight mounted to frame rails must use two 7/16” bolts and double nuts. No weight outside of car body, i.e. on nerf bars. B. Bumper dimensions MAX WALL THICKNESS .125 . 1. Front maximum width 30” maximum height 8”. May not be more than 12” forward of front tires. 2. Rear maximum width 56” maximum height 8”, May not extend more than 6” behind rear body panels. C. Firewall must be metal and must completely separate engine compartment from cockpit. Engine protruding into cockpit must be enclosed. D. Windshield must be wire mesh or protection bars. NO GLASS E. Dashboard must be metal. Should have push/pull electrical switch on extreme right hand side, or master electrical switch clearly located and marked. Other switches must be toggle type. F. Kick-outs must be minimum of 3-point mounted ahead of rear axle and should be full length nerf bars between front and rear tires. Maximum outside diameter of 1.25” Must be hollow. May not extend out beyond tread width more than 1” at the rear only MAX WALL THICKNESS .125”. G. Seat, must be high-backed aluminum, racing type. All cars will have a permanent bar located behind top of seat at shoulder level. Bottom of seat will not be more than 63” back measured from upper ball joint., Seat may be tilted back for added driver head clearance, however no portion of the seat may be back more than 68” as measured above. 4. ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS ENGINE: MAXIMUM Displacement 1200cc. for Non fuel injected, 750cc for Fuel Injected engines 4 Cylinder / 4 Cycle 2006 or prior standard production 500+ unit produced. Beginning in 2011 only stock 600cc engines will be allowed, either fuel injected or carbureted the way it came on the bike. A. FUEL INJECTED ENGINES 750cc max must be TOTALLY STOCK, including bore and stroke engine must remain the way it came from the MFG, no mixing of other parts from year to year, example (4 injectors for a 4 injector engine not 8) NO MODIFICATIONS of any type, Air filters open. B. NON FUEL INJECTED ENGINES 1200CC max must be TOTALLY STOCK, including bore and stroke engine must remain the way it came from the MFG, no mixing of other parts from year to year may use crank Ignition Advancer, Carburetors open Air filters open, Only on older 2 valve per cylinder engines only Porting / Polishing is allowed. C. OEM KAWASAKI, HONDA, YAMAHA, SUZUKI, unaltered stock ignition box (black box) for the year and make of engine that it is working with, this may be randomly pulled to have tested by 3rd party of tracks choice and or like may be exchanged with track Tech Officials prior to any event at tech Officials discretion, or other test procedures may be used. May use the Techlusion digital fuel optimizer (DFO), Dynojet or Yoshimura power commander. No others allowed EXCEPT TO CHANGE THE MAP FOR FUEL AND TIMING IN NO WAY CAN THE STOCK RPM’S BE INCREASED THRU THE BLACK BOX OR ANY OTHER WAY, YOU CANNOT use any type of programmable black box like the Kawasaki race black box or the Dyno jet Ignition module these or anything like them NOT ALLOWED. D. All must have working transmission, clutch and starter with all parts in place, Alternator optional. E. Engine must be front mounted in engine compartment. F. Engine set back :The square of the engine (Left OEM side at top of jug) may not extend rearward more than 17” from the center of the spindles no part of the engine or transmission may extend rearward more than 21” from the center of the spindles G. Engine must be cooled by original intent, may use extra fan or oil cooler, recommended to be mounted in front of fire wall out of driver area. Engine Lubrication open. H. Not allowed to use aftermarket Cylinder heads, Blocks, or Jugs, & No Crankshaft lighting, any engine I. EXHAUST: EXHAUST SYSTEM MUST BE SAFE AND MEET APPROVAL. WORKING MUFFLERS ARE MANDATORY ALL MUFFLERS MUST HAVE TAG WELDED TO IT WITH CAR # ON IT MUST PASS THE 35 RP NOISE TEST STRICTLY ENFORCED. MUST EXIT TO THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR AND USE A TURN DOWN TO T HE GROUND, MANDATORY MUFFLER SEE PART NUMBER IN THE GENERAL MUFFLER RULES. 5. WHEELS AND TIRES A. Steel wheels only, minimum wall thickness 090”, 13” only. Wheel width max. 8” B. ALL 4 TIRES MUST BE DOT HOOSIER TIRES (medium compound) & Must durometer 50 minimum. (cold AMBIENT TEMP) before race. No tire treating sniffer will be used in 2010. C. NO Hoosier dirt stockers, NO Bead lock rims. 6. DRIVE TRAIN A. Must use steel drive shaft from transmission to automotive rear end, Minimum 2.50” X .083” or 2” x .120”. B. No independent suspension rear ends allowed. C. Drive shaft must be painted white or day-glow orange. D. Drive shaft tunnel must have minimum of 2 (3 recommended) 360 degree hoops between firewall and seat back must be fabricated of minimum .1875” x 1.5” steel bar 1.25” x .095” steel tube highly recommended. E. TRANSPONDERS are to be mounted on rear axle housing. F. No ratcheting, clutch type, or Quick change rear ends not allowed. Must be locked or by welding or a spool 7. BATTERY, FUEL SYSTEM A. Battery and fuel pump must be mounted outside driver compartment, Battery must be secure and held with non-rubber strap. Electric fuel pump allowed. Car should have master electrical switch clearly located and marked. B. Fuel cell mandatory, maximum 5 gallons, located in trunk. C. Gasoline only, track fuel will be used as base line for all fuel tests. No fuel additives, air intake gel, oil additives to increase oxygenation of fuel 8. FRAME AND ROLL CAGE A. Main frame members will be minimum of 1” x 2” x .120” wall rectangular steel tubing only. No aluminum allowed in cage or frame. B. Main frames will have a minimum of 3 cross members between firewall and back of seat fabricated of same material as frame rails. Alternate material may be steel angle, min. .125” x 1.5” x 2”. Cross-bracing in floor under driver strongly recommended. C. All roll cage components including uprights and cross members must be steel, minimum size 1.25” X .083” (.095 recommended ) in all cars manufactured after 12/98, cross-brace or diagonal brace strongly recommended over cockpit. Tech inspector may grandfather older cars depending on condition. D. Rear door post must be minimum 1” x 2” .120” rectangular steel or structural equivalent. E. All cars must have bars installed across door openings on both sides, Bars should be welded in place as part of roll cage minimum size 1” x .065” (1.25” x .083” recommended) Cars with full length doors should have full door frame and minimum of 2 horizontal cross bars. Minimum 1” x .065”. Cars with full length doors must have 1/4” x 2” steel stops welded on each side of opening totaling a minimum of 4” on each end of door. Steel plate on driver's door bars recommended. F. It is required to have a steel bar with a minimum size of 1” x .065” from door post to door post, under the dash. G. It is recommended that if using rivets body panels should attach to tabs welded onto cage instead of drilling multiple holes into cage bars. H. Where the rules for frame and roll cage states steel The equivalent in chrome molly maybe used. 9. STEERING A. All steering components must have safety fasteners such as cotter pins locking nuts. B. Manufactured quick-release steering wheel hubs mandatory. C. Rack and pinion steering is recommended. Allowed. 10. BRAKES A. Four wheel brakes mandatory. May be drum or disc. B. Rotors and calipers: 1. Steel rotors mandatory. No scalloped rotors 2. Steel OEM calipers or Wilwood Dynalite single calipers or equivalent Maximum value $95. 3. Steel or aluminum hubs C. Competition-type master cylinders allowed. Adjustable brake bias allowed. Must be Out of drivers reach 11. SUSPENSIONA. Front suspension must not extend rearward past the most forward panel of the firewall. Maybe hidden under frame rail out of view from either side. B. Rear trailing arm radius rod specifications. 1. Arms located outside frame rails may not extend forward beyond rear door post. 2. Arms located inside frame rail are not restricted in design or length. 3. Solid mounts only No Torque-absorbing devices they are not allowed. IE: rubber biscuit. C. Wheel offsets are allowed..Hub offsets are NOT allowed. Hubs must have equal distance from frame rail on both sides of car. D. Standard Coil-over shocks are the only allowable means of supporting the chassis. One shock and spring per wheel only. E. Shocks must be of all-steel construction, non-adjustable type. May not be a type that allows disassembly or have a Schrader valve. F. No driver shall have the ability to adjust suspension from inside car. . G. Straight front axles are not allowed, No bird-cage type rear linkage, No independent rear suspension, No leaf springs or torsion bars allowed. H. Anti-roll (sway) bars are allowed front or rear 12. GENERAL SAFETY: MUST HAVE A WORKING FULLY CHARGED 2 POUND FIRE EXTINGUISHER SECURELY MOUNTED [FLAME-OUT FIRE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEMS ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED] MASTER ON/OFF SWITCH MUST BE CLEARLY MARKED WITH RED PAINT AND LOCATED WITHIN REACH OF THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR BOTH OF THESE MUST BE REACHED BY THE DRIVER FROM THE SEAT FULLY HARNESSED INTO CAR, DRIVER , BUMPERS & NERF BARS MUST BE CAPPED NO SHARP PROTRUDING EDGES Window nets or arm restraints HIGHLY recommended .13. COURTESY RULE: AS A COURTESY ANY CAR FROM ANOTHER TRACK OR ORGANIZATION WITH MINOR RULE DIFFERENCES MAY AT MANAGEMENTS DISCRETION RACE ON THAT NIGHT BUT WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THE RULE MODIFICATIONS IN ORDER TO COMPETE CONFORMING TO THE RULES ON THE NEXT VISIT TO THE TRACK. THE EXCEPTIONS WOULD BE SAFETY SPECIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL EVENTS WHICH HAVE NO GRACE PERIOD. THIS RULE IS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT COMPETED AT 35 RP IN 2007. ENGINE CLAIMING: Any driver finishing on the lead
lap may initiate the engine claim
procedure by presenting cash $1200.00) to Officials within 10 minutes of
feature finish will who will promptly notify the driver of the car that
the engine is being claimed. the driver will not start, drive, or work
on the car once an engine claim has been initiated. the car will be
pushed to a designated area for engine removal. The driver/owner may
accompany the car but will not start, drive, or work on the car until
officials are present to over see removal once the car has been moved to
the designated area for engine removal, the two parties will be called
to the area. The driver/owner of the car that is posting the claim will
report to the designated area with their car in running condition. The
Owner/Driver of the claimed engine shall have two options as to the
engine claim. Option 1 - remove the engine and receive $1200.00 or
Option 2 - receive $400.00 and the engine of the driver placing the
claim. The decision is strictly up to the driver/owner that had the
original claim placed on their vehicle. All drivers/owners are expected
to conduct themselves in a sportsman like manner at all time during an
engine claim, Both driver and one crew member from each car will remove
any engines.
Any driver or owner who refuses to abide by the claim procedure shall have their engine # registered and the engine shall be banned from competition. The driver/owner will be suspended from competition for a period of 4 pre-scheduled races. NOTE: Track Officials reserve the right to deny an engine claim that is retaliatory in nature
